“What is Spektrum?”

Porsches. Colours. Community.

What started as a hunt for a challenge turned into an inclusive Porsche show that celebrates the diversity within the brand’s colour palette.

I set a few goals for what Spektrum should accomplish including:

  • Bring the Porsche community together

  • Curate a tasteful selection of Porsches including a variety of models

  • Celebrate the myriad colours within the Porsche palette over 60 odd years of production

  • Exhibit the cars in a photogenic fashion so as to attract photographers and content creators

  • Use the dynamic nature of the Grandstand to our advantage

  • Ensure that any racing taking place was an integral part of the experience

  • Make the event as family friendly as possible

The organizational heavy lifting was carried out during an eight week period leading up to the show, which was slated for Saturday, March 2nd. This included negotiating with sponsors, coordinating the display cars, working with the Autodrome to promote the venue, execution of a comprehensive social media campaign with my media team and rolling out merchandise with my graphic designer. A group of friends also assisted me during load-in and load-out, while performing marshaling duties during the show.

The show itself saw more than 80 cars spanning the full range of Porsche’s colour palette, framed by the concrete beams that support the photogenic Dubai Autodrome Grandstand. Blessed with great weather on the day, 2,000 people visited the show to admire the vivid colours on display. The cars were the stars and we had a diverse range - from a Manthey Racing “Grello” GT3R race car to lifted Cayennes that were ready to tame the first sand dunes they came across. We also worked with local photographer Sami Sasso to launch his new line of “Fragment” art pieces, with a large installation at the venue.

Spektrum was also supported by a number of partners like RM Sotheby's, AutoHaus, CARS Shipping, Topaz Detailing and DRVN, whose involvement was integral to the success of the show.

Most importantly, the show brought the Porsche community together for a day full of colour. We were even graced with the presence of the Porsche Middle East management team, who expressed their approval of the event.

On a personal level, Spektrum is a career highlight for me. There have been numerous calls for the event to become a an annual fixture on the motoring calendar, which in itself is evidence how well it was received.

Let’s see what the future holds.
